Fairy Meadows

Fairy Meadows, named by German climbers and locally known as Joot, is a grassland near one of the base camp sites of the Nanga Parbat, located in Diamer District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

Fairy Meadows well-known for its beautiful luxurious green plateaus and World’s 9th main mountain Nanga Parbat (the Killer Mountain) is situated in Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan area, Pakistan. The place was called Fairy Meadows in 1953 by an Australian climber Hermann Bhul due to its hypnotic beauty. He was here to climb the highest of Nanga Parbat. He became the first one to peak the mountain. Fairy Meadows is also called “Heaven on Earth” due to its peerless beauty.

A night camping or stay in usually built wooden cottage at Fairy Meadows with a wonderful view of mighty Nanga Parbat’s North face is very sole and delightful experience. Even more if sky is strong and night is full moon. The cool moonlight shiny from the huge majestic icy peak shows the actual meaning of nature’s loveliness and peace.

How to reach?

Raikot Bridge is the stop for visitors near Fairy Meadows. It is situated at a height of 4595 feet (1400 meters) above sea level and about 540 kilometers (336 miles) from Islamabad (the capital of Pakistan), when coming through Karakoram Highway.

From Raikot Bridge you can hire a native jeep to touch Tatoo Village at a height of 9515 feet (2900 meters) above sea level. It will take about half hour of thrilling trip to reach Tatoo Village.

Onwards from Tattu route becomes too thin for a jeep to travel but not very problematic for trekking. After two to three hours of trekking contingent on your fitness level, you’ll reach Fairy Meadows.

Where to stay?

There are numerous hotels and tourist lodges are obtainable to ease tourists in Fairy Meadows. Most of them of are obtainable at very sensible prices. A few although are little luxurious. Many tourists like to stay in camps on green places.

Food is luxurious here as likened to cities. But obtainability of food at this distant place makes it worth paying.

When to visit?

The finest time to visit Fairy Meadows is between end of June and middle of August. The place becomes unreachable in winter due to heavy snow.
